RDAR and Emissions Reduction Alberta Forge Partnership to Advance Climate-Smart Agriculture

Edmonton, AB, September 16, 2025 RDAR, a leader in results-driven agricultural research in Canada, is excited to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) to explore, collaborate on, and leverage new initiatives that will deliver tangible environmental and economic benefits to all Albertan producers and residents.

ERA invests in the development and deployment of clean technology projects that deliver sustainable environmental outcomes, lower operational costs, attract investment, create jobs, and maintain the province’s global competitiveness.

Reducing emissions and enhancing Alberta’s environment and ecosystems is essential for agriculture, not only to address the direct impacts of climate change but also to unlock new economic opportunities. These initiatives have already proven to boost farm profitability and resilience by enabling precision agriculture, improving machinery efficiency, and optimizing resource utilization.

Furthermore, Canadian and other global consumers are growing increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of their food. By demonstrating a commitment to sustainable environmental practices, producers can meet these expectations, stay competitive, and earn trust in the food they produce.

By working together, RDAR and ERA can help Alberta’s producers achieve sustainable reductions in GHG emissions, improve water treatment and soil remediation, and realize broader environmental benefits more quickly and effectively through joint initiatives and increased efficiency by avoiding duplication of efforts.

As part of the new agreement, the two parties will seek to:

·       Share information on current and future projects, market trends, and best practices;

·       Leverage resources to streamline investment due diligence and negotiation;

·       Accelerate emission reductions

“This partnership will allow both ERA and RDAR to share knowledge and streamline administrative processes so that new clean technologies can get to market faster. ERA’s growing agriculture portfolio already includes an expected 1.6 million tonnes of cumulative emission reductions by 2030, and with the support of RDAR, that number will only continue to grow,” said Justin Riemer, CEO of Emissions Reduction Alberta.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Dr. Mark Redmond, RDAR CEO, said, "Embracing emissions reduction and enhancing Alberta’s environment and ecosystems is more than stewardship—it's about securing a resilient and prosperous future for Alberta's producers. Through our partnership with ERA, we will accelerate innovation that delivers measurable gains in profitability, productivity, and sustainability. By protecting our land, water, and agricultural businesses, we're ensuring that farms and ranches can be successfully passed on to future generations."

About RDAR
RDAR is a not-for-profit organization mandated to target strategic investments in producer-led, results-driven agriculture research to power the profitability, productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability of agriculture in Alberta. RDAR's funding is provided by the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

As one of Canada’s largest delivery partners of the On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF), since 2022, RDAR has distributed over $41 million to more than 2000 Alberta producers for the on-farm adoption of beneficial management practices (BMPs) that support the reduction of GHGs.

ABOUT EMISSIONS REDUCTION ALBERTA (ERA):
For 16 years, ERA has invested revenues from the carbon price paid by large emitters to accelerate the development and adoption of innovative clean technology solutions. Since its establishment in 2009, ERA has committed nearly $1 billion toward 323 projects valued at over $10.6 billion, which are helping to reduce emissions, create competitive industries, and lead to new business opportunities in Alberta. These projects are estimated to deliver cumulative reductions of 33 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalents by 2030 and 92.6 million tonnes by 2050.
